Long before I met Felipe and knew that I would be visiting Chile frequently, I heard of this huge swimming pool in Chile right by the Pacific Ocean.

What a random place for the world’s largest pool I thought! And I don’t even know how I stumbled upon this big turquoise lagoon swimming pool in Chile in the first place.

But I’m glad I did because we finally got to visit the longest swimming pool in the world.

San Alfonso Del Mar, Algarrobo, Chile

The place is called San Alfonso Del Mar, aka the biggest swimming pool in the world.

The San Alfonso Del Mar lagoon is located in Chile’s coastal town of Algarrobo by the Pacific Ocean.

The largest pool on earth is very accessible and quick to reach for a weekend getaway or even longer when you are visiting Chile.

Getting There From Santiago

To get to the biggest pool in the world it is about 100 km / 65 mi or a 1,5 h drive from Chile’s capital Santiago.

Getting There From Valparaíso

From the picturesque town of Valparaíso, it takes equally as long to get to San Alfonso Del Mar.

First Biggest Swimming Pool In The World

Built in 1993 the crystalline lagoon swimming pool of San Alfonso Del Mar in Algarrobo was the first in making the Guinness world record for the largest pool in the world.

World’s Longest Swimming Pool

The lagoon is located right next to the Pacific Ocean and stretches more than a kilometer along the beach. This makes this unique pool in Chile the longest swimming pool in the world.

Specs Of San Alfonso Del Mar Pool In Chile

The majestic pool in Chile spans over 8 hectares and holds 250 million liters of salt water which gets pumped in and filtered right from the Pacific.

The deepest spot of the pool measures 3,5 meters deep.

San Alfonso Del Mar Resort

11 buildings surround the world’s biggest pool.

The resort buildings house more than 1200 apartments which are mainly used as second homes.

All buildings are located within the private San Alfonso del Mar Resort.

There is no outside access.

Each of the 11 buildings has its own white sand beach with palm trees, sun loungers, and an adjacent pool which is built inside the big lagoon.

While the smaller pool-in-pools are for swimming the large lagoon is for water sports like kayaking, water bike, paddle boarding, etc.

There is a glass pyramid that features a heated pool and spa inside for the cooler days in Algarrobo, Chile.

In addition, the biggest pool in Chile featured 2 restaurants and some snack shops and cafes.
