What Is The Weather Like In Cancun?

Cancun is a Caribbean destination and therefore has a tropical climate. This means the weather in Cancun will be hot and humid most of the time. Therefore, summerly, flattery beach outfits will generally be your best choice to pack for Cancun.

For occasional “colder” and windy days, a light cardigan, a light sweater, or a jeans jacket, and some long pants are recommended to pack for Cancun.

Weather In Cancun

May To September

The hottest and most humid weather in Cancun is in the months from May to September with average temperatures around 90 F. September and June can also get quite rainy.

During these late summer months, you don’t really need any warmer clothes for Cancun. Pack summer outfits and dresses for Cancun, Mexico. An umbrella is something that you can put on your list of things to bring to Cancun during these months.

April & October

The border months April and October are usually in the high 80s F. In October it can get pretty rainy.

November To March

From November till March you will have the “coldest” Cancun weather with pleasant temperatures in the low to mid 80 degrees Fahrenheit. These months also overlap with the high season in Cancun and the Yucatan Peninsula in general.

Types Of Clothes To Pack For A Trip To Cancun

We have been to Cancun and the Riviera Maya during various seasons of the year, and it is safe to say, that most of the time you will be just fine with summery outfits for Cancun. Therefore, if you are wondering, what Cancun outfits to pack, select light clothing.

If you want to be safe, bring some long pants and a light sweater. There are also plenty of shops and malls in Cancun where you can go shopping if you are missing something.

For instance, there are two malls in Cancun right in the hotel zone: La Isla and Fashion Harbor Cancun. The Plaza Las Americas mall, which is located right before you get to the hotel zone, has also some good shopping in Cancun and is easy to get to.

Mosquito Repellent

Another Cancun vacation essential is insect repellent. There are not many mosquitos by the beach in Cancun, since it is so windy. But in any other places and especially when on excursions in the jungle, there can be a lot of mosquitoes.

We always use insect repellent with 20% picaridin instead of DEET. It doesn’t damage our clothes and plastics and is said to be less toxic. If you want to learn more about it, we recommend doing a quick google search to find out more! A good source is also the CDC and EPA.
