HOW TO GET TO ISLA MUJERES

You can get to Isla Mujeres on your own via ferry or with a tour. The ferry leaves from 4 different ports in Cancun. The main one at Porto Juárez and three more spots in the hotel zone: Playa Tortuga, El Embarcadero and Playa Caracol. The ferry service is operated by Ultramar. Check their website for routes, pricing and schedules.

Another option to get to Isla Mujeres is via a tour. With this option, the way of getting to Isla Mujeres is also part of the experience with for instance a catamaran and snorkeling tour. See below for different tours to Isla Mujeres.

We have done snorkeling tours around Isla Mujeres but also have taken the ferry ourselves a few times. It just depends on how much time you have and what your goals are. If you plan to stay on the island and have luggage or come straight from the airport, a ferry ride may be your best option. If you plan a day trip, then a tour is a great option.

Rent A Golf Car To Explore The Island

The best way to explore Isla Mujeres is by renting a golf car. You can find rental places anywhere around the ferry and downtown area. It’s super fun! We’ve done it a few times and it never gets old. It kind of feels a little bit like in Mario Kart! haha It’s just so fun! Expect to pay around 45 to 55 USD for a day. The longer you rent it for the cheaper the daily rate gets.

Visit The Turtle Farm On Isla Mujeres – La Tortugranja

Isla Mujeres is home to giant sea turtles. From May to September the giant turtles lay their eggs on the beaches of Isla Mujeres. The sea turtles are a protected species and to keep them safe from predators the eggs are placed in a safe area. After their birth, the turtles are put in ponds and eventually accompanied to the sea so they can return to their natural marine habitat.

Besides the turtles, there’s a small aquarium with other fish and marine species. The turtle farm is located in the South of Isla Mujeres.
