Costa Rica’s Most Amazing Hot Springs
The Arenal area in Costa Rica named after its majestic volcano El Arenal in the Alajuela province is a hot spring mecca. For good reason!
Due to its proximity to the volcano, there are a wide variety of different thermal spas around the town of La Fortuna. You will find many different hot springs in La Fortuna, for every wallet and taste. The options are seemingly endless, but one stood out immediately – The Springs Resort and Spa.
The Springs Resort & Spa In La Fortuna
On our search for the best hot springs in La Fortuna, Costa Rica we stumbled upon a lot of thermal springs and hotels that are really cool. But once we came across the Springs Resort And Spa Arenal it totally overshadowed them, because even though the other hot springs in Arenal were really nice, none of them were as amazing as the Springs Resort hot springs.
Tucked away into a mountain ridge in Arenal, Costa Rica The Springs Resort & Spa is an absolute hot spring oasis within the lush Costa Rican jungle. On top of it all, the Arenal hot spring resort has the most incredible views of El Arenal volcano.
Magical Views Of El Arenal Volcano
Having traveled to La Fortuna during the rain season, we experienced everything from cloudy and rainy days to bright and sunny days. Sometimes all of that within just one day!
During our visit to the hot springs resort in La Fortuna, we were lucky to capture one of the most beautiful sunsets right from the main thermal pool at The Springs Resort And Spa.
The volcano, which had been hiding in the clouds for most of the past days, briefly showed itself right on time for the most epic sunset in La Fortuna. There are really no words to describe this spectacle of colors and landscape! You have to see it for yourself!
The Springs Resort Hot Springs
Besides the main hot springs pool with the most amazing view over El Arenal volcano and La Fortuna, The Springs Resort & Spa has many more thermal pools hidden around its beautiful resort grounds.
Las Lagunas Pools
Located right by the main building, these hot springs have the most amazing views of the Arenal volcano. On top, the main pool has a swim-up bar that serves cocktails and small bites.
There are several pools around the main hot spring deck, some are fed by the hot mineral water from a nearby hot spring source and others are chlorinated and heated. The pool temperatures range from 86˚F to 103˚F.
Perdido Springs
The “lost springs” are located in the foresty area of the resort. You will find 7 spring-fed thermal pools there, which are nestled between the lush green jungle. Along with the Perdido Springs, you will find two bars and a water slide.
Club Rio Springs
Also part of The Springs Costa Rica Resort are the hot springs at Club Rio Adventure Center. While the hotel itself is located on the mountain top, these thermal pools are located in a canyon at the bottom of the hill next to Río Arenal.
The hot springs are scattered around the lush rainforest and are more secluded and natural looking than the ones at the top which are mostly super nice man-made pools. It has been a real adventure finding and exploring all the hidden hot springs!
Our favorite hot springs down there at Club Rio Springs were the ones overlooking Arenal river. These pools are two-story hot springs that also have a little waterfall running down into the river.
If you are into waterfalls, check out our post about La Fortuna waterfall which is another main attraction in Arenal.

Staying At The Springs Costa Rica Resort
The Springs Resort And Spa at Arenal is not only one of the best hot springs resorts in Arenal, Costa Rica but also one of the two best hotels in La Fortuna.
The Springs hotel is actually our favorite place to stay in La Fortuna. Right up that alley is Tabacon Thermal Resort & Spa, which is quite different but equally as amazing.
The only downside to the hotel is that it is quite expensive to stay there! But, if you can afford it, staying at The Springs hotel for one or two nights is worth the money, in our opinion. And it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Romantic Getaway At The Springs Resort Costa Rica
If you are looking to spend a romantic getaway in La Fortuna or your honeymoon, the Springs Resort Costa Rica should be number one on your list. It doesn’t get any better than this in our opinion!
Or even more so if you want to have your wedding at The Springs Costa Rica. We are not big fans of hotel weddings, but would definitely consider having a wedding at The Springs Resort.
The Springs Resort and Spa Costa Rica Vacation Packages & Deals
Sometimes you can get deals for The Springs Resort And Spa and then staying there gets a bit cheaper. Check the hotel’s website for special occasion vacation packages or sites like Booking.com.
We found that hotel booking sites usually have the cheapest rates. If you are flexible, play around with the dates to see when you can find a good deal. This worked pretty well for us in the past to pay lower prices for hotels that are usually a lot more expensive. You have to be somewhat flexible though.
Pro tip: Travel off-season if you don’t mind the occasional rain shower. When you travel off-season prices are cheaper and you will also encounter fewer people. To save on hotel costs, avoid traveling around US holidays especially.

Since the hot springs belong to the resort, you can either stay at the hotel and get access to the hot springs for free or you can buy a day pass if availability allows.
If you are not planning on staying at the hotel you can find information on the day pass to The Springs Resort in the following:
The Springs Costa Rica Day Pass
When purchasing the Springs Resort day pass, you actually get two days to enjoy the hot springs, which is amazing! So while you can’t stay at the resort you can come back the next day and soak in the incredible thermal pools all over again.
Included in the day pass are the hot springs, pools, and access to the five restaurants and six bars. Food and drinks at these restaurants are not included.
Hours & Prices
The Springs Resort Day Pass
Price: 77 USD +tax
Hours: 8 am to 10 pm
Duration: 2 days
You can buy day passes to The Springs Resort on the hotel’s Viator page or here.
During the peak season in Costa Rica, the price for a day pass at The Springs Resort is higher and you only get one day instead of two. This is quite expensive in contrast to the regular two-day pass.
Peak Season Day Pass
Price: 95 USD +tax
Hours: 8 am to 10 pm
Duration: 1 day
Peak times:
Christmas
President’s Day Week
Valentines Day
Easter
Pro Tip: If you are trying to limit travel costs, avoid these peak season days and weeks and visit the hot springs during the offseason. This is what we did. During the off-season, fewer people travel to Costa Rica. We had the hot springs at the resort almost to ourselves which was so nice and relaxing.
Animal Sanctuary
The resort also has an Animal Sanctuary on-site which cares for wildlife rescued by the Costa Rican Environmental Ministry. For an additional fee, you can take a tour to visit the rescued monkeys, jungle cats and sloths, and more.
